EMDR Intensive Therapy

A Deeper Approach to Healing

  • EMDR Intensive therapy offers an efficient and highly effective approach for facilitating meaningful change, particularly for those experiencing persistent or entrenched patterns. While EMDR is thoughtfully integrated into Gwen’s ongoing individual counseling sessions, Intensives offer an opportunity to engage this work in a more concentrated and immersive format.

These extended, focused sessions allow for deeper therapeutic exploration without the interruptions of weekly scheduling, supporting greater continuity, momentum, and integration. For many clients, this format can significantly accelerate the healing process.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched, integrative psychotherapy approach with strong evidence for the treatment of trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as anxiety and depression. It works by helping the brain reprocess distressing experiences so they are no longer stored in ways that contribute to ongoing emotional reactivity or limiting beliefs.

Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, EMDR supports a fundamental shift in how memories, beliefs, and emotional responses are processed and integrated. Clients often experience a reduction in emotional intensity, increased cognitive flexibility, and the development of more adaptive perspectives.

Due to its depth and efficiency, EMDR Intensive Therapy can accelerate therapeutic progress compared to traditional weekly sessions, offering a structured pathway toward meaningful and lasting change.

    • Intensives are individualized to the client. We will develop a plan based on our phone consultation and the goals you have in mind. I may ask you to fill out a brief questionnaire ahead of time to most effectively utilize our time.

    • Full day intensives take between 1-3 days and are blocked at 8 hours per day. Typically, sessions will begin at 9:00am and end at 5:00pm, with up to four 90-minute therapy sessions spread throughout the day with intentional breaks in between.

    • Half day intensives are blocked at 4 hours with start times in the morning or the afternoon.

  • Intensives are not for everyone and timing matters. A thorough assessment of a potential client’s readiness for intensive work is provided in our free phone consultation.

  • It depends - the focus of an intensive is to desensitize and reprocess a particular target, or cluster, to enable significant relief and healing. Many clients can complete an intensive and return to their lives ready to move forward. Some clients will need to schedule several intensives to fully process and heal their stories. In these cases a weekly therapist to help manage things between Intensives may be recommended or required.

  • First, schedule a free initial phone consultation (use the Request Appointment button at the bottom of the page). Consultations are NOT therapy - they are an exploration to see if an intensive is a good fit for you.

  • Treat the days surrounding an intensive session like a personal retreat. This is a rare time for clients to really focus on healing themselves. Schedule activities you enjoy around your sessions such as massages, yoga, walking, and sleep!

  • All intensives take place in person at my office in Monument, Colorado.

  • At this time, insurance companies will only cover a small portion of the cost.

  • Intensives can be utilized to work on very specific parts of a client’s history and afterwards, the client returns to the care of their weekly therapist.  If you currently have a therapist, please feel free to discuss this option with them and I am happy to collaborate.

  • Since the work is concentrated into several days, rather than an ongoing weekly basis, clients can travel from anywhere in the world for several days to participate in an intensive.
